The following section describe the inswtallation and usage of EcmSpy, version 2.0. Compared to the version 1.1 the user interface has changed slightly, and a few new feature were added. EcmSpy now includes the funcionality previously provided by the two additional tools: EcmRead (fetching and burning EEPROM copies) and Bin2Msl for converting a binary to a textual log file. These features are now integral parts of EcmSpy and do not require a donation or the necessity to activate a database.
Before running the EcmSpy software, a Mono Runtime Environment has to be installed on the computer. The Mono installer can be downloaded from the Mono download area. Please follow the installation instructions provided with the download.
Mono is the open source implementation of Microsoft's .NET platform and a runtime environment similar to Java. When using Mono, the mono application (called "assembly") is running inside a virtual machine. As the assembly code is platform independent, it can run on different machines and operating systems such as Windows, Linux or MacOS. They can be started with a double-click on the desktop icon as usual, but the user interface will in many cases have a bit different look and feel.
