ECM Plug Pinouts

1) DDFI-2

DDFI-2 ECM types have a black and a Grey socket for a Deutsch DT 12-way plug (Deutsch IPD part number is DT06-12S). These are available at various sources (mainly located in the the USA). The numbers refered to in the tables below are printed on the back side of the plug. DDFI-2 ECM types from 2004 and later come with a single spade connector between the two sockets (Exhaust Valve Motor Control), there is also a version available for the japanese market, which has two more connectors added, to connect to the AIC. DDFI ECM types (for fuel injected pre-XB models) look very similar, but wire Colours might differ.

2.1) DDFI-3, 1125R (Helicon) Engine, 2008 Model

DDFI-3 ECM type for the Helicon Engine, built by BRP Rotax, required new sockets because of the increase number of sensors and actuators. The two sockets are still Coloured Grey and black, but now contain 34 connectors each. The sockets and plugs are manufactured by Tyco AMP, and are from the AMP Superseal 1.0 mm product line. The sockets are keyed to prevent accidently swapping plugs. The AMP part numbers are:

  • 2-1437285-3 - for the black socket
  • 3-1437290-9 - for the Grey socket

These plugs are apparently available at Harley-Davidson/Buell dealers only. The connectors inside the plug have the AMP part number 3-1447221-3 and could be aquired at some third party stores much cheaper. The pin are counted from upper left to lower right, as shown in this AMP technical drawing.

2.2) DDFI-3, XB (Thunderstorm) Engine

DDFI-3 ECM types for the Buell/Harley-Davidson Thunderstorm Engine use the same ECM hardware as the Helicon engines, and require the same plugs as described above. As the XB models have less sensors than the 1125 models, pinout differs a bit.

3) DDFI-3 ECM to DDFI-2 Motorcycle Conversion Harness

If you want to connect a DDFI-3 ECM to a DDFI-2 Buell you can build a small harness to do so. Wire colours for the DDFI-3 side plugs depend if you start with the Helicon or XB colour scheme. Not all sensors share the same pin position for DDFI-3 ECM, notably the rear ETS and AMC feedback line.
